COMPETITIVE SWIMMING PROGRAM
The Baldwin Whitehall Swim Club, Inc. (“BWSC”)
is a competitive swim team which offers age group swimming to members age 6
to 18. The BWSC swims year round, and there are two seasons: The primary
Fall Season (which is also referred to as “short course”) begins in
September and runs through the end of March, and the secondary Summer Season
(which is also referred to as “long course”) runs from May through July each
year. Practices are held 5 to 6 days a week with the recommendation that a
beginner swimmer participate 3 days a week, and progresses to the advanced
swimmer who should participate every day that swimming is offered. During
the Summer Season, practice is offered twice a day, in the morning and in
the evening, to the BWSC intermediate and advanced swimmers.
Swimmers are separated into three swimming groups – Beginner, Intermediate
and Advanced – according to ability. Practices include an emphasis on
stroke and technique, drill work and individual development through
clinics. With the incorporation of dryland strength training and
development, the BWSC offers a well-rounded swimming program.
While participation in meets is strongly recommended, it is not a
requirement to be on the team. Meets are held throughout each season at
various high school and borough pools locally. Additional participation may
include trips outside the Pittsburgh area at the member’s option to add a
higher element of competition for the intermediate and advanced swimmer.
