BALDWIN WHITEHALL SWIM CLUB, INC
.SAFETY GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES
A. Accidents:
1. Minor – handled by the attending coach and/or lifeguard as per first aid training. All accidents shall be documented, in writing, by the attending coach with a copy given to the Head Coach and Executive Board. Swimmers over the age of 12 shall call a parent notifying them if the particular case warrants it. For swimmers under 12 years old, the coach shall call the parent to notify him/her of the severity, again, if the case warrants it.
2. Major – Handled by the attending coach and/or lifeguard. Have a responsible adult call the parents of the swimmer, the paramedics or anyone else to be informed. Again, as noted above, the accident must be documented, in writing, by the coach on duty at the time, with a copy of the written report given to the Head Coach, Executive Board and Athletic Department of the School or facility.
B. Fire Alarm:
At the sound of the alarm, all swimmers and families are to leave the pool area and school immediately. As per school fire drills, everyone is to back away from the school building and into the parking lot area. Swimmers are not to change or take anything with them. After placing an adult or responsible senior member of the team in charge, the attending coaches will check the pool, locker rooms and hallways to be sure no swimmer is left inside. In the event of cold weather, any cars belonging to swim families should be made available to the members to keep them warm. No one is to return to the building until notification by the custodian in charge. The flashing light in the gym lobby stays on until the all clear. In the event of a real fire, any parent in attendance with a cell phone should make this available to swimmers to call their family.
C. Power Outage:
If the power goes out for any reason, there are emergency lights in the pool, locker room and hallway. If the power does not come on within a reasonable amount of time, the coach will discontinue practice and the swimmers and families should proceed to the locker rooms to change and pick up personal items. The attending coaches and any parents should check the pool area, locker rooms and hallways to make sure all swimmers are either with a parent or on their way home. Again, any parent with a cell phone is asked to assist swimmers with making calls home.

For the situations set forth above, the Baldwin Whitehall Swim Club, Inc.
supports the efforts of its coaching staff to take attendance at each practice, which helps
