Who Is BWSC?

Baldwin Whitehall Swim Club (BWSC) is a non-profit, parent run-organization serving the South Hills area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.   The BWSC is part of the Allegheny Mountain Swimming Association (AMS) locally and the USA Swimming organization at the National level.  It is an all-inclusive club for children ages 6 through 18 competing in meets throughout the year.   The home pool for the BWSC at the Baldwin High School in Whitehall, Pennsylvania is currently being renovated.  The BWSC has continued to run its club practices and various programs at the Carrick High School Pool in the City of Pittsburgh.  While the competitive team practices almost daily year-round, enhancements to its program include a successful Learn-to-Swim Program, two separate Introduction to Competitive Swimming Clinics annually, a Lifeguard Certification Program with CPR/AED and First Aid, and participation in the Nationally known USA Swimming Swim-a-Thon event

BWSC's coaching staff is headed by Kim Klinger. Kim has been with the organization for over 15 years. As head coach, Kim emphasizes technique instruction based in the development of all the four strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly according to Olympic USA Swimming regulations.   Successful swimmers in this program work towards competing in the local Junior Olympics Swimming Championships and the AMS Age Group Championships held at the University of Pittsburgh. Finally, the swimmers compete at the regional and national championships held throughout the eastern United States.

Swimmers just beginning with BWSC must have the ability to swim the length of a 25 yard pool and the endurance to complete an hour long workout.   Most importantly, a participant must have the desire to learn and the will to succeed.   Through swimming competitively, participants can be involved in a unique program in which the   success lies in personal growth, self confidence and self discipline.   While swimmers are competing independently, they are also representing their team.

BWSC offers practice flexibility. It recommends that swimmers attend at least 3 out of the 5 or 6 practices scheduled each week.   BWSC competes in swimming meets throughout Western Pennsylvania that are structured to provide fair competition for participants from novice swimmers to the more talented and competitive individual.   Meet information and structures can be obtained though the Allegheny Mountain Swimming Association's website at www.amswim.org.

BWSC is governed by a board of directors made up of parent volunteers. Its coaching staff consists of individuals who are certified through the American Swimming Coach Association (ASCA).   Additionally, BWSC coaches are   all American Red Cross certified in Lifegaurding Safety, CPR and First Aid.
